Why I still sketch on paper

Figma is where ideas get finished. Paper is where they get started.

Every project I am proud of started on the back of a printout. Not because paper is romantic, but because it is bad in exactly the right ways.

You cannot align anything on paper. You cannot pick a font. You cannot make it look finished, so you do not fall in love with it. You draw six versions of a screen in ten minutes and throw five away without feeling anything.

The moment I open a design tool, I start polishing. Paper keeps me thinking about what the screen does, for a little longer, before I start worrying about how it looks.
